Our Mission

Members of the Greater Bay Area Association of Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Mechanical Contractors are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in business ethics, building-code compliance, quality craftsmanship and customer service.

Customers and Communities Benefit

Through its support of high building standards, the GBA has helped maintain a safe working and living environment for Bay Area residents. Likewise, customers of GBA contractors have the assurance of quality work and system performance.

Partnership

At its foundation, the GBA is a partnership.

On one side of the partnership are the nation's best-trained and most highly certified plumbing, refrigeration and air conditioning technicians. These union tradesmen and tradeswomen are trained at the finest educational and hands-on training facilities in the industry.

On the other side of the partnership are leading plumbing, heating, cooling and mechanical contractors, who put the skilled technicians to work providing customers with the highest-quality construction and maintenance services.

Together, GBA contractors and their skilled technicians have the experience to get the job done right -- the first time.

A History of Industry Leadership

The Greater Bay Area Association of Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Mechanical Contractors is a non-profit organization representing numerous leading plumbing, heating, cooling and mechanical contractors located in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Its history began in 1939, when it was known as the San Jose Master Plumbers Association. The Association was renamed several times over the years, changing to the Santa Clara County Master Plumbers Association, then to the Associated Plumbing Contractors of Santa Clara County. Later it was known as the Association of Plumbing, Piping and Air Conditioning Contractors of Santa Clara County.

The State PHCC Board of Directors approved a merger of San Mateo and Santa Clara County Associations, and the Greater Bay Area Association became a consolidated corporation established in August 1963 as the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association of the Greater Bay Area, Inc. The association represented the largest union Plumbing & Heating Trade Membership in Northern California. Its "Greater Bay Area" designation refers to a coverage area of San Mateo, Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, which is roughly the San Francisco Peninsula and South Bay areas.
